"Fab weekend, superb accommodation and surroundings. I proposed to Donna - we will be back." Steve and Donna, Northwich
This imposing tower house is situated in the majestic Peak National Park and was designed by the famous Elizabethan architect, Robert Smythson in circa 1590. This is a building with strong literary connections: the lonely romanticism of the building is believed to have provided the inspiration for Charlotte Brontë’s description of Mr Rochester’s house, Thornfield Hall, in Jane Eyre, following a visit by the authoress to Hathersage in 1845.
Her description of the fictitious house is not dissimilar to North Lees: ‘…it was three storeys high, of proportions not vast but considerable; a gentleman’s manor-house, not a nobleman’s seat…’ The legend of a mad woman perishing in a fire at North Lees may have been the source of inspiration behind Mrs Rochester’s dramatic demise.
North Lees Hall accommodates 6 persons, in 2 double rooms and 1 twin and is perfect for either a family holiday exploring, climbing or walking in the Peak National Park or for a romantic escape. Please note a 5% discount applies for 2 persons occupying the hall.
