The Summer House

Eyton-on-Severn, Shropshire,
20 minutes from Shrewsbury off the A458
Sleeps up to 2
£635 to £805 per week, from £365 for a short break

"Snuggling up in front of an open fire, lazy mornings in a four-poster bed, star gazing on the roof...The Summer House will make you count your blessings".
Mr & Mrs David Hunt, Bucks

This rare surviving example of an octagonal Jacobean banqueting house was built as one of a pair of towers for Sir Francis Newport, the Comptroller and Treasurer of the Royal Household during Charles II’s reign. Completely detached, The Summer House is all that remains of Eyton Hall, the Newport’s family house and is the perfect place to enjoy an intimate holiday in the unspoilt Shropshire countryside.

Banqueting houses became popular in the sixteenth-century. Built at a distance away from the main house, dinner guests would retire to these intimate rooms to enjoy the panoramic views and a banquet of spiced wine, sweetmeats and decorative sugar moulds.

Sit back and absorb the romantic ambience of this historic building whilst relaxing in the garden, enjoying the outstanding views from the balustraded roof or enjoying an intimate conversation in front of the open fire.
